Mindful Eating and Weight Loss
This episode talks about weight loss, and how Mindful Eating fits into that area.
Hint: It doesn’t. It moves past appearances to get to the root of the food relationship.
Mindful Eating and Weight Loss:
Will Mindful Eating help me lose weight? I get this question all the time. Many weight loss programs equate mindful eating with weight loss promises. While there is some research around Mindful Eating and shifting body size, it’s important to realize that your size depends on so many factors, one of which is your relationship to food and your body.
Other factors involved in weight loss include: our unique setpoint, lived experience, neurobiology, and genetics.
Mindful Eating can help you with your food relationship, meaning your food habits and desires, behaviour and patterns around food.
I’ve trained in nutrition and in mindfulness based eating awareness, with a program called the MB-EAT.
I want to bring some real talk to the practice of mindful eating as a weight loss “tool”.
In this episode, I’ll briefly cover:
What mindful eating means (to me).
What it is, and isn’t.
Why it it’s more of food relationship tool, than a weight loss tool.
